BLACK BEAR HUNTS
The Big Horn Mountains are home to the largest population of Black Bear in the state of Wyoming. Spring Black Bear season is open from May 15th to
June 15th. During this time bears are just coming out of hibernation in search of feed. Wyoming law prohibits hound hunting thus we utilize mostly bait hunting over active proven baits in the evenings and generally prefer to use spot and stalk methods in the early mornings. Our area supports about a 50/50 color phase with half being black and the other half a combination of blonds, chocolates, and cinnamons.

The average bear is approximately 275-375 lbs. with the exception of maybe one or two a year ranging up to 400 lbs. Springtime in Wyoming is a wonderful time of year and you’ll likely experience Moose, Elk, Deer and other wild game in their natural habitat bearing their young. This hunt is operated out of our base camp which is a back country pack-in trip. Only 6 bear hunters a year will be booked so call early to secure the hunt dates you prefer.

IDAHO SPRING BEAR HUNT - HOUND/BAIT HUNT
Our region of Idaho offers some of the best bear hunting in the United States. This region features the 4 unique color variations of black bear, including black, blonde, brown, and cinnamon. The spring weather is usually mild with some rainfall. Perhaps the best aspect of our bear hunts is that we are not plagued by the black flies that you will find in Canada. Both bait and hounds can be utilized during the spring bear hunt. A combination of a hound/bait hunt usually yields the best chance for a real trophy. The combination hunt features a full day of hunting with the hounds combined with baited stand hunting during the evening hours. This method allows for the ultimate bear hunting experience. We conduct our bear hunts from mid-May to season closing date, June 15th. Our baiting begins in mid April establishing a feeding pattern and the best possible response from the bears. Tangle Ridge Outfitters & Guides holds your ticket for a once in a lifetime hunt with a real trophy opportunity!

ELK HUNT back to top
Whether you’re a new raghorn chaser or an experienced wapiti stalker we have got a hunt for you. We hunt in remote areas of the Big Horn Mountains and offer two different base camps, the Diamond Tail Cabins and the Backcountry Camp. These areas hold great elk in both quality and quantity. Rifle, archery, and muzzleloaders are all welcome, as well as crossbow hunters. On average a mature bull will range from a 260 to a 320 class bull. All of the archery hunts will be during prime bugling season.Calling will be the preferred technique during this period. To hunt during the rut is one of the most exhilarating hunts you’ll ever experience. The rifle hunts will combine some calling, spot and stalk, and tracking. All of the guides are well trained in these hunting methods. For those who are willing to be patient and work hard, real trophies are there to be had.

We would also like to suggest that you try our cow elk hunt. This hunt provides a good opportunity to experience a guided hunt with less expense. For some of our clients a guided elk hunt is a once in a lifetime opportunity, for others its and experience they enjoy every year. Either way our commitment to making your hunt the best it can be remains the same.

MULE DEER HUNTS back to top
Trophy mule deer is one of the most sought after species in the west, and quality deer hunts are getting harder and harder to find. With Tangle Ridge Outfitters you can be assured a great hunting experience. We offer many different opportunities to hunt mule deer. Depending on your hunting style preference you can choose from a mountain backcountry pack-in hunt, a mountain cabin hunt conducted on private land, and two other different private ranches in the lower elevations of Wyoming. These hunts can easily be combined with an elk or antelope hunt as well. All four of our hunting locations offer good quality and quantity of deer. The deer here have good genetics and mineral rich feed which promotes exceptional antler growth. Average bucks run 20”-24”, with the older more mature bucks ranging anywhere from 25”-29” and we never rule out the possibility of finding even better. Over the past few years our success rate has been nearly 100%. These are “bragging rights” that do not come easily. We spend many days scouting and preparing for your hunt long before the seasons open. However, the harvest success of each hunt depends on weather conditions and the ability and desire of each individual.

NEBRASKA MULE DEER - RIFLE AND MUZZLELOADER
5000 acres of pristine mule deer country makes up our Nebraska private land lease. The terrain consists of rolling hills, and canyons amongst irrigated alfalfa fields that the mule deer graze. The deer on this ranch have not been heavily hunted for years and the quality and size of these muleys confirms that fact. The hunt is ran from a rented farm house and all meals and lodging will be provided. The actual hunt itself is done by 4x4 and spot and stalk.
If you are looking for an hunt that will yield a true trophy mule deer this is it. No guarantees can be made but we will assure you the BIG ones are out there. To preserve the true trophy quality of deer on this ranch the hunts are limited so if you are interested please book early.

MOOSE HUNTS back to top
While drawing a moose tag for our area is challenging it isn’t impossible and with the preference point system the dream of hunting a trophy moose in the Big Horns becomes a reality for a handful of hunters each year. We hunt this area 95% of the year and we often see moose while on other big game hunts. Therefore we know the habits of the moose and know where to go to find them. If you are lucky enough to draw a tag we strongly recommend you book a hunt with Tangle Ridge Outfitters to assure yourself the best possible chance at harvesting a once in a lifetime trophy.

MT. LION/COUGAR back to top
Lion hunting is not just a winter past time for us, its serious business. These hunts depend heavily on favorable weather conditions, but with good snow cover, success on past hunts had been good. This animal is a highly elusive cat which makes them a prize to be had amongst hunters. Our hounds are trained and continuously exercised in hunting these sleek natured animals. It is truly an indescribable adventure to hunt behind the dogs and enjoy the chase in a beautiful mountainous area.

Cats range in size from 80-110 lbs with the toms reaching 130-180 lbs. Cougar licenses can be purchased over the counter. This hunt is operated out of a local lodge or motel which is at your own expense. We have a local meat processor and taxidermist who will take care of your processing, shipping, and taxidermist needs; or our guides can prepare your meat and mount for you to transport home to your own local vendors. Be sure to bring a camera to record this unique experience.

MERRIAM'S TURKEY HUNT back to top
Come experience a turkey hunt of a lifetime and hear multiple Long Beards every morning. We will guide you on over 10,000 acres of private lands with over 100 turkeys on the ranch. We only take 10 hunters a year so your chances of taking a big gobbler are super! Your hunt will include lodging and meals at our tent camp with knowledgeable guides and staff that will treat you like family! Season runs from April 15th to May 15th.

ANTELOPE
Antelope hunting in Wyoming is an exciting and yet highly successful experience for every hunter from the beginner to the pro. The antelope are plentiful which provides a great opportunity for most everyone to harvest an animal. Don’t let the over abundance of antelope in our state fool you into thinking this hunt is too easy. . . Antelope are a wily, sharp sensed, fast moving, animal which provides an exciting challenge. The 3 day rifle hunt is a town hunt. You will be responsible for your own breakfast, dinner and hotel accommodations in a nearby town. We will provide a lunch and transportation to and from the ranch each day. The spot and stalk method is highly utilized for this hunt. The archery hunts are either operated as town hunts or as bunkhouse camp hunts, depending on the hunt you choose. You will be hunting from blinds setup strategically at well used water sources of the antelope. These hunts can easily be paired as an antelope/mule deer combination. If you harvest early in the day, you may also have the opportunity to visit a nearby Prairie Dog town.
