Black Bear

We took a break from our bear hunts for a few years due to the harvest quota restrictions. Due to the fact that we shared a quoata with the eastern slope of the Big Horns sometimes the season would close before we could even get to our bait sites due to the snowpack. However, the Wyoming Game and Fish recently reconfiugred the areas and we now have our own quota which will allow us to have a much needed season on this side of the mountain.
Our Spring Bear season is open from May 1st through June. These 5 day hunts are a great opportunity to hunt in a setting like no other, during a time of year when there are few other hunting options. While Wyoming law prohibits the use of hounds to pursue bears in this state it doesn’t stop us from continually having great fun and success in our hunts. These hunts are based out of our back-country tent camp and allow for ultimate enjoyment of the great outdoors while pursuing the awesome bruins our area holds. The hunts are conducted over bait in the late afternoon and evening. Days are spent replenishing baits or taking it easy around camp. Baits have been strategically placed in proven locations and the hungry bear, emerging from hibernation is looking to score some of the irresistible treats we use as bait. Our area supports about a 50/50 color phase with half being black and the other half one of the color variations. We only book 4-6 hunters for this trip so if you’re interested book early to secure the hunt dates you prefer.  The spring weather is usually mild with some rainfall.  Perhaps the best aspect of our bear hunts is that we are not plagued by the black flies that you will find in Canada.  We begin baiting a few weeks before the season opens to establish a feeding pattern and the best possible response from the bears.  Their prime spring coat is unequaled by any other season. The end result is a beautiful trophy that you will be proud to display and more than likely an equally interesting story about your adventure obtaining it.

Bear Hunts ~ Spring or Fall
There’s something special about hunting black bears in Wyoming’s Big Horn Mountains — the country is rugged, the bears are plentiful, and every hunt is an adventure.
In the spring, we focus our hunts out of town, baiting lower-elevation sites where the snow melts early and the bears start moving sooner. These hunts are a great way to kick off the hunting season and enjoy Wyoming as it comes back to life after winter.
Come fall, we head for higher elevations and use our elk camp as base. We spend our days checking baits, watching the mountains change color, and waiting for that perfect opportunity. Fall bear hunts are a great mix of hard work, patience, and pure mountain time — everything a Wyoming hunt should be.
